ZERO WASTE PATTERN CUTTING

Workshop with Natascha von Hirschhausen

Natascha von Hirschhausen is a young label from Berlin that creates elegant, minimal pieces of clothing and radically avoids waste and plastic by staying true to Zero Waste principles. Natascha’s label is fully transparent, enabling consumers to easily trace the provenance of any materials used.
Zero Waste pattern cutting might not be a popular technique with fashion students, as it seemingly limits possibilities; but two exercises under Natascha’s guidance quickly broadened the participants’ horizons. Her designs prove how versatile this technique is in the design process.
Natascha was a local international °1 participant.

CRAFT TRADITION + IDENTITY + CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

THE CRAFT ATLAS
by Cecilia Palmer
https://craftatlas.co

Craft Atlas is a web-based, open-source platform for craft knowledge, techniques and artisans / craft manufacturers. The fashion designer Cecilia Palmer has developed it as a tool for craftspeople and fashion designers to make comprehensive information about textile handicrafts and their origin publicly accessible. Through a visual and interactive map, the provenance of handcrafted textiles like embroideries or artisan cloths can be tracked and located. Craft Atlas understands craft as a unique design tool with unique cultural value and puts it into the focus of traditional and contemporary design.
